Karon Litzenberger, 76, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at St
Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on February 7, 1946, in
Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Clifton & Ova Imogene (Mitchell)
Jackson. She married Verle Litzenberger on July 28, 1973, in Hooker,
Oklahoma.
Karon graduated from Hooker High School with the Class of 1964. She
then earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Panhandle
State University and a Masters degree in education from Southwestern
Oklahoma State University. She moved to Garden City, Kansas, in 1967
and began her teaching career, where she taught 3rd grade at Alta Brown
School and 2nd grade at Florence Wilson School for a total of 41 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Searchers
Sunday School Class. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Finney County
Senior Center, walking, gardening and being involved with her
grandchildren.
She is survived by her Husband- Verle Litzenberger, 2 daughters- Amy
(Duane) Friedly of Shawnee and Laura (Seth) Patrick of Garden City,
brother, George Jackson of Las Cruces, New Mexico, a twin sister- Sharon
(Gary) Gregory of Goodland and 3 grandchildren- Jaxson Friedly, Madelyn
Friedly and Abigail Patrick. She was preceded in death by her parents
and grandson- Ryan Allan Patrick.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday at Garnand Funeral Home with
Rev Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in
Garden City.
