Ruth Felder, 97, Nekoma, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas, where she resided for the past four years. She spent many hours listening to polka music there and enjoyed their weekly book club. She loved the many visits from her great grandsons!
Ruth was born July 1, 1926, in rural Shaffer, Kansas, the daughter of Frederic and Myrtle (Crowell) Mayfield. She was a lifelong Rush County, Kansas, resident. A 1943 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was a U.S.P.S. Postmaster in Nekoma, Kansas, for about 40 years before retiring. She was a farm wife and loved living on the farm. She loved driving grain trucks and mowing the farm yard.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.
On February 14, 1952, she married Vernon M. Felder at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. He preceded her in death April 5, 2019.
Survivors include: one son, Fred Felder (Kathy), Rush Center, Kansas; two grandsons, Michael Felder, La Crosse, Kansas, and Bruce Felder, Rush Center, Kansas; two great grandsons, Dice Felder, and Drew Felder; one step brother, Virgil Franz, Tyler, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her step father, Ralph Franz.
Church visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Andy Hammeke officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.
