Martha Heier, 80, of Hays, formerly of Oakley, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at Hays Medical Center. She was born in Sheridan County, Kansas on January 3, 1943, to Valentine “Walter” and Margaret (Zerr) Heier.
Martha graduated from Sheridan Community High School in
1960. She worked as a cook in the Colby and Oakley area for many years.
Martha was an avid embroider and sewer, she loved gifting her
masterpieces to her family. Reading was a passion all her life. She
was never without a stack of books close by. She was a very quiet
woman, but she did enjoy playing card games, dominoes and calling bingo
with her apartment community. One of her latest ventures was putting
puzzles together, mounting and framing them, so they could be hung on
the walls of the apartment complex she lived in. Idleness was not in her
vocabulary
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Rosalie Heier; nephew, Richard
Heier and wife Glenda; nieces, Debra Vickers and husband Kelly, all of
Hoxie, Norma LeHew, of Tucson, AZ; great nieces and nephews, Aimee,
Kelsi, Jamie, Trisha, Jordan, Andrew, Kara and Corey; and numerous
great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Jacob J. Heier.
Cremation was chosen and her family is having a graveside service in
Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Park, Kansas, on Saturday, January 14,
