Nancy Kay (McGavran) Robbins

Nancy Kay (McGavran) Robbins went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 19, 2022, at the age of 84.

Nancy was born April 15, 1938, in Abilene, KS to Carl and Rovena (Windhorst) McGavran. Nancy graduated in 1956 from Minneapolis High School. She married Eugene E. Robbins July 15, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Wells, KS.

Nancy and Eugene (Gene) were married for 34 years before he preceded her in death April 12, 1990.

During their marriage, Gene and Nancy welcomed five daughters. Nancy was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker. For each daughter, she was room-mother, Girl Scout Troop Leader, “beautician" and seamstress.

Nancy worked at numerous places in the community, including Boogaart’s, Perry’s Liquor, ElDorado and the bowling alley. Nancy is fondly remembered for her many years at the bowling alley. She was an avid bowler and Gene built her a special cabinet for her many trophies. In 1991, Dean Johnson offered her a job at the City Pharmacy. Nancy loved this job and most of all, her pharmacy family. She worked at the pharmacy for 29 years before retiring in 2020.

Nancy enjoyed sports, she attended many Minneapolis High School football and basketball games. You always knew where to find her when the Royals, Chiefs, or KU Jayhawks were on TV.

She is survived by her five daughters, Sharon Hatfield of Lincoln, KS; Karen Arias and husband Jairo of Hays, KS; Janet Robbins of Wamego, KS; Jill Robbins and partner Hans Cathers of Hays, KS; Jeannie Robbins of Minneapolis, KS; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Fred, Ray, and Tom McGavran. She is also survived by her best friend of sixty years, Di Fraser. At one of her family reunions, Nancy looked at her large family and exclaimed “I started all this!” 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene; sister Deanna Cross; son-in-law Curt Roach; father and mother- in-law, Frank and Wilma Robbins; brother-in-law Dean Robbins; and sister-in-law Dolly Mae Andrla.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Wilson Family Funeral Home 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 24 at the First United Methodist Church 418 N Rock St., Minneapolis, and burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery Minneapolis.

Memorials may be made to the Minneapolis VFW Auxiliary to Post # 3201 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis.
