Charles McGinnis, age 88, died on April 27, 2022, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1934, to Ruby (Boren) and Glenn McGinnis in Lebanon, Missouri. On July 29, 1954, in Ellis, Kansas he married JoAnn Bollig, his high school sweetheart.
Charlie grew up in Trego County with his parents, Lewis and Ruby Swingle, where he learned the plumbing trade from Lewis while in high school. He eventually became the owner and operator of the family business, Swingle Plumbing and Heating, which he continued until retirement. Charlie was a “Master Fixer” of anything that was given to him. He was a CB radio fanatic, talking on the airwaves and fixing the radios, and he kept busy tinkering with the latest technologies. He enjoyed spending time at casinos when he would travel to see his grandkids. He loved to hunt and fish and attend the various activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were his absolute pride and joy.
Survivors include JoAnn, his wife of the home; his son, Mike McGinnis and his wife, Verla, of Ransom; granddaughter, Michelle Dinges and her husband, Zach, of Topeka; granddaughter, Jessica Greer and her husband, Ken, of Manhattan; granddaughter, Kelli Atkins and her husband, Tommy, of Hill City; grandson, Marshall McGinnis and his wife, Shannon, of Lawrence; and grandson, Troy Walt of Morland; great-grandchildren, Carter and Naomi Dinges; Thayn, Evan, Parker and Ivy Walt; Owen, Collin and Clare McGinnis.
A private family service is scheduled for Monday, May 2, 2022, at Schmitt Funeral Home followed by burial in Christ the King Cemetery, WaKeeney.
