Mary Dearden, age 76, passed at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, KS. on Friday, January 12, 2024. She was born on July 31, 1947, in Winfield KS to Benjamin and Edith Waite Stout. The youngest of three children, she had two older brothers Colonel Delbert Stout (Nancy) and Willis Stout (Joyce).
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City KS. She was very proud when she was baptized on January 16, 2011.
She married Gary Joe Heath on November 25, 1964, in Moreland KS. They had two children Benjamin Heath (Lora) and Bruce Heath. She moved to Otis, Kansas in 1970 and was there until Joe passed on May 5, 1985.
She found love again when she met Robert Dearden at the Fanchon Ballroom in Hays KS. They married on November 18, 1987, in Scott City, Kansas.
She had a few jobs through the years. Worked as cook at Otis Bison School District in Otis, Kansas, and Cherry Lane Nursing Home in Great Bend Kansas. Mary enjoyed her years at Please Go Away Travel Agency in Great Bend Kansas. Later she had her own travel agency in Scott City, Kansas. She worked in the FSA office in both Lane and Wichita Counties. Then she worked for State Farm Insurance in Scott City Kansas. She really enjoyed working for Michael and all the people in the office. She retired from that job on July 31, 2015.
She was always supportive of her children and later grandchildren. She really enjoyed going to all their school activities and was known to take pictures of all their events. She often entered her pictures at the Scott County Fair. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She made several baby blankets and sewed clothes for her children.
She is survived by her spouse - Robert Dearden of Scott City, Kansas, her children Starla Newberry (Brad) of Lenexa, Kansas, Lonny Dearden (Colleen) of Scott City, Kansas, Ben Heath (Lora) of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce Heath of Hays, Kansas, Rob Dearden of Kansas City, Kansas, Will Dearden (Jamie) of Colby, Kansas, Nine Grandchildren - David, Christopher, Nicholas, Kayla, Kirsten, Krissa, Tessa, Kyle, Raeleah and Eleven Great grandchildren - Tristan, Alirah, Laynee, Hazleigh, Braxton, Ryker, Oliver, Maren, Gabriel, Sam, and Liam.
She was preceded in death by Her parents Benjamin Stout, Edith Ruggles, and Doyle Ruggles. Her Brothers - Colonel Delbert Stout and Willis Stout, Her first husband Joe Heath, and her daughter Ranell George.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Jeff Goetzinger presiding.
