Floyd Robert Rohr, 93, Hays, died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at HaysMed.
He was born November 25, 1930 in Ellis County, the son of Lawrence P. and Katherine C. (Doerfler) Rohr. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War and was stationed in France, Germany, and Belgium. After his discharge, he was an oil field engine repairman owning Glenn Gill Repair for 19 years. He then worked for Knighton Oil Company, Inc. until he was well into his eighties as he loved repairing engines and working with his hands. On May 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to Margie Lou Kreutzer in Hays and they celebrated over 64 years of marriage. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #9076, and enjoyed reading Weekly Magazine, taking care of his garden and lawn at the shop, and was a devoted husband and hard worker from a young age.
Survivors include his wife Margie, a brother Walter Rohr and wife Doris of Orange Park, FL, a sister Ruth Pfeifer of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer (Irene), Gilbert (Edna), Vernon (Annetta), Fr. Vincent, and LeRoy Rohr, and two sisters, Esther Ruder (Edwin) and Minnie Zimmerman (Victor), a brother-in-law, Leonard Pfeifer, and a sister-in-law, Mary Rohr.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Curtis Carlson OFM Cap. and Fr. Alvin Werth officiating. Burial will follow with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a rosary at 7:00, both on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of HaysMed or to the Community Assistance Center.
