Bernice Verbena (Jantz) Tedford

Bernice V. Tedford, age 97, of Goodland went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 5, 2023. She passed away in her home. Bernice was born September 10, 1925, to David P. Unruh and Anna (Jantz) Unruh on the family farm in Ochiltree County, Texas. She attended grade school in a country school in Ochiltree County and then attended Spearman High School and Perryton High School, graduating in 1942. She attended Oklahoma Bible Academy graduating in 1944. Bernice attended Bethel College in Newton, KS and Teacher’s College in Greeley, CO. She taught in a one room school house in Haskell County, KS, and later in Ulysses and Greensburg, KS.

On August 27, 1954, Bernice married Max I. Tedford of Minneola, KS. After their wedding in Perryton, TX they moved to Vona, CO where Max farmed and Bernice taught in the Vona School. They farmed in the Vona area for ten years. On February 19, 1965, they moved to a farm northwest of Goodland, KS. They farmed there for more than 50 years. Bernice was a homemaker and worked beside Max on the farm. Max and Bernice were married 63 years.

In her youth, Bernice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and continued faithfully serving her Lord in the work of the church and as a prayer warrior. For many years she attended Goodland Bible Church. In her latter years she was homebound and enjoyed many good Biblical sermons on the TV. Bernice enjoyed spending time with her family, church activities, scrapbooking, and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; brothers, Eli, Allison, and LeRoy; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Kay Unruh.

She is survived by her son, Myron (Penny) Tedford of Goodland, KS; son, Gary Tedford of Farwell, TX, daughter; Karen (Ron) Garrett of Peculiar, MO; sister, Helen Bussey of Goodland, KS, sister-in-law, Ruby Unruh of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
