Carrol Lynn Walker, 89, passed away December 10, 2022, at Country Living Home Plus in Larned, KS.
She was born April 9, 1933, in Larned, the daughter of Raymond Edward and Florence Blanche Smith Johnson. Carrol was raised in Larned and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and home economics at Fort Hays State College. On February 6, 1955, she married Duane Lee Walker in Larned, KS. After Duane joined the Navy, they were stationed in New Mexico, Washington State, California and Texas. Teaching was her first love and she taught in every place they lived. Carrol taught students from grade school to adults while raising her four children. They returned to Kansas in 1974 where she taught in the Hays school system, and then became the Director of Special Education in Stafford County. Carrol and Duane retired and moved back to Larned in 1995.
She volunteered at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary and Santa Fe Trail Center, both in Larned. Carrol loved plants and transformed many gardens in her life.
Survivors include: two sons, David B. Walker (Cathy Comstock), Gig Harbor, WA, and Mark L. (Dani) Walker, Spotsylvania, VA; daughter, Judith Walker, Hays; two sisters, Rhonda Cooley, Fort Collins, CO, and Donnis Miller Shipley, Hutchinson; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; a daughter, Susan Michelle Walker; and a sister, Laurel Johnson.
Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary with family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Burial will be the Larned Cemetery, Larned, KS.
