Marion Lavonne Reeder, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. She was born February 15, 1931, in Hill City, Kansas, to Clark and Jessie (Wallace) Pierson.
Lavonne graduated from Salina High School in 1949 and attended Kansas Wesleyan. She married Carl Reeder on October 8, 1950, in Salina, Kansas and they moved to the WaKeeney area shortly thereafter. He preceded her in death September 12, 1978.
Music was a big part of Lavonne’s life. She sang many solos and duets in church and for weddings and funerals. She directed both the children's and adult church choirs for the Methodist Church, the latter for over 50 years. Lavonne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, participated in Harmony Club and EHU, was a former board member of Keeney Village and the Senior Center, former co-director of the Trego County Food Pantry, and crusade chairperson and former president of the Trego County Cancer unit, all in WaKeeney.
Survivors include four daughters, Cheri Watson and husband Gary, Springfield, MO; Joleen Nimz and husband Mark, WaKeeney, KS; Jeanine Welli and husband Mike, Wichita, KS; and Rhonda York and husband Dave, Leavenworth, KS; a sister, Ilene Jones, Springfield, MO; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Darryl Reeder.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th St., WaKeeney, KS.
A celebration of Lavonne’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 6 at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Summit Avenue, with burial following at the WaKeeney Cemetery.
