Darlene A. (Jacobs) Sander, age 88, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Hays Medical Center.
She was born March 15, 1934, in Pfeifer, Kansas, to Anthony and Regina (Jacobs) Jacobs. She married John J. Sander on April 16, 1955, in Pfeifer, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2012.
Darlene grew up in Pfeifer. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a volunteer for many years at the Hays Community Assistance Center. Darlene enjoyed athletics as a young woman and continued her lifelong interest in exercise and staying active with almost twenty years in a water aerobics class where she met and became friends with many of her classmates.
Survivors include her sons, Bryan Sander (Dee) of British Columbia, Canada and John Sander Jr. (Rachel) of Olathe, KS; her daughters, Karen Barnes (Aric) of Humble, TX; Jo Oliver (Russ) of Wichita, KS; Dianne Dye (Phillip) of Shawnee, KS and Eileen Moore (Chris) of Dallas, TX; her sisters, Isabelle Schuckman of Aurora, CO and Carol Moeder of Arvada, CO; her brother-in-law, Elmer Unrein of Bennett, Co; her sister-in-law, ClairellaJacobs of Hays, KS; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Darlene is also survived by her sister-in-law, and friend, Bernadette (Gary) Arnhold of Hays, KS.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two brothers; her eight sisters, and her one grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th & Vine, Hays with Father David Michael officiating. Inurnment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hays Community Assistance Center or Locust Grove Village in care of the mortuary. Services are entrusted to Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, KS 67601.
