David Duane Zbinden passed away on September 2, 2023, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, KS at the age of 87. He was born on February 17, 1936, to Emanuel “Bun” and Elsie (Rickfelder) Zbinden in Greenville, IL.

He married Ruth Zimmerman on June 23, 1956. They were blessed with two children: Dawane and Denise.

David lived in the country near Highland, IL until 1973 when he and Ruth moved to eastern Colorado, and then Ft. Collins in 1977. In 2002 they moved to Stanford, NE and then to Norton, KS in 2017.

David worked as a welder for 30 years. He also raised mink, rabbits, trapped furbearers, seined fish and dug nightcrawlers for a local bait shop. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and whenever they lived in the country, he always had a little hobby farm.

David is survived by his daughter Denise (Dr. Mark) Klein of Norton; sister Linda (Robert) Harris of East Winsor, NJ; two grandchildren, Heather (Dan) King and Katie Hooper; and three great-grandchildren, Abby, Trinity, and Zachary King.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, father Bun Zbinden, mother Elsie, son Dawane Zbinden, infant sister Sheryl Zbinden, and brothers Roy and Larry.

A private family service will be held this fall.
