Virginia M. Wildeman

Virginia M. Wildeman, age 93, of Grainfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care. She was born May 28, 1929, at the family home south of Grainfield to Ernest and Regina (Keller) Katt.

Virginia graduated from Grainfield High School. She was united in marriage to Ralph Wildeman on August 21, 1950, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. They were together until his passing in 1993. To this union, 10 children were born. Virginia worked as the custodian for Wheatland High School for 18 years, retiring in 2000.

Virginia was a member of the St. Agnes Ladies of Grainfield, and she loved cooking for her children and grandchildren, sewing, and generally making home. She also enjoyed the occasional Snickers and Dr. Pepper.

Those surviving Virginia are her sons Kenny Wildeman (Rhonda) of Jennings, Kansas, Alvin Wildeman (Patti) of Hoxie, Kansas, Terry Wildeman (Shelia) of Lawrence, Kansas, Randy Wildeman (Stephanie) of Garden City, Kansas, and Steve Wildeman (Kelly) of Topeka, Kansas; daughters Shirley Medford (Bob) of Ammon, Idaho, Darlene Gassmann (Alan) of Gavette, Arkansas, Norma Stewart (Randy) of Olathe, Kansas, and Christy Rathgeber (Brian) of Grainfield, Kansas; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and brothers Arthur Katt, Leroy Katt, and Bernie Katt, all of Grainfield, Kansas.

Virginia was preceded in death by both parents; husband Ralph; daughter Linda Wildeman; and siblings Ernest “Junior” Katt and Mary Ann Katt.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at St. Agnes Education Center, with vigil and rosary to follow.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 18, 2022, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Father James Thomas as celebrant.
