Alberta M. Bahr, 92, died December 30, 2022, at Ultra Care Home Plus in Wichita, Kansas. She was born May 27, 1930, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of William J. Stoss, Sr. and Marie (Pundsack) Stoss. Alberta was raised on the family farm south of Olmitz, and attended the District 77 Grade School. She then went to High School in Great Bend where she graduated in the Class of 1948. After high school she worked for a time in the Scheufler Supply Company, but soon met her soulmate, Bernard Bahr, at a Valentine’s dance in Olmitz and was married a short time later. They were married on June 20, 1950, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz. Her job then changed to farmwife where she quickly became an active part of the farm.
Alberta always had a big garden, and canned everything, and enjoyed raising chickens on the farm. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her turkey dressing, angel food cake, and apricot and poppyseed kuchen. Her grandchildren were always spoiled with leftovers and she loved showing them the farm life.
Alberta was a lifelong member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where she received all of her sacraments, from baptism, first holy communion, confirmation, and marriage. She was very involved in the church in many ways, often leading the rosary and always helping in the Altar Society.
She is survived by her two daughters; Karen Nelson and husband Galen of Wichita and Bonnie Glaser and husband Kelly of Derby; sister, Lois Mauler of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Amanda Selvam and husband Anthony of Bonney Lake, Washington, John Nelson and fiancé Ashley Bruner of Wichita, Jessica Glaser of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kayla Cress and husband Steven of Shawnee; and four great-grandchildren, Annaliese and Adam Selvam, and Adeline and Julia Cress.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, William J. “Bill” Bahr, two brothers, Bill and Marvin Stoss, and three infant grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Olmitz, Kansas.
