MOHRI, Patricia Jean, “Jeannie” (Steele), age 84, formerly of Leoti, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. She was born April 10, 1940 in Hutchinson, KS. Jeannie was a graduate of Wichita County High School and received her BA from Kansas State University in 1962, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
During her life she volunteered with various organizations, the Officer’s Wives Club, Family Services, served as President of Heartland Desert Shield during the first Gulf War, and served as a docent with the National Park Service for the San Antonio Missions, favoring Mission San José. Jeannie was an exceptional seamstress and crafter and at one point owned an antique store in Papillion, Nebraska. She will be better remembered for an infectious laugh, hilarious sense of humor and quick wit (once receiving a shout-out by Ann Landers), adventurous attitude – “well, we’ve never been lost here, before,” and her fabulous style and class. Her compassion for others and animals was unmatched by many.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Hyland and Dorothy Steele and her brother, Jack Steele. She is survived by and was a rock star mother to her children, Anne Mohri, Allison Mohri-Troster and son-in-law, Adrian Troster, and Matthew Mohri, her dog Baxter, and kitty Nancy. She will be dearly missed.
