Laurinda 'Lindy' Schmeidler

Laurinda“Lindy” Schmeidler – 100 years, 8 months, and 2 days old, of Catharine, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.

     She was born March 15, 1923, on the family farm North of Victoria to Anton M. and Mary (Hoffman) Kuhn. She married Eugene Schmeidler on November 10, 1947, in Victoria.  He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1982.

     She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, and lived on the farm northwest of Catharine until she moved to the Good Samaritan Society of Hays in 2010. She was a wonderful baker of breads, pies and cookies. She loved her flowers and always had a large vegetable garden of strawberries, grapes, watermelons and numerous other vegetables. She grew up on the family farm, attended school in Victoria, and was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church.  

     Lindy’s survivors include her brother, Alphonse “Ollie” Kuhn, Hays; her nieces and nephews; her great-nieces and great-nephews, and her great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton M. and Mary Kuhn; her husband, Eugene Schmeidler; her brothers, Edmund Kuhn; Emil Kuhn; Ernie Kuhn; Alfred L. Kuhn; her sisters, Albina Dreiling; Regina Kuhn; Helen Dinkel; Margaret Kuhn; Oliva Windholz; Henrietta Kuhn; and her three infant sisters.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine with the celebrant, Father Earl Befort O.F.M. Cap.  Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery.

     A vigil service and Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria.  

     Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine.

      The family suggests memorials made payable to: St. Catherine Catholic Church in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main St., Victoria, KS 67671.
