Harold Myron Edmonston, 81, of Protection, KS, passed away in his home on Thursday, September 26, 2024 with his wife Susan by his side.
Born May 24, 1943, Myron was the youngest child of Harold and Helen (Eubank) Edmonston. He graduated in 1961 from Protection High School and from Fort Hays State University in 1966, earning a B.S. degree in Agriculture. Myron served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972.
On September 18, 1965, Myron married Susan Strobel of Protection. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.
In 1970, Myron purchased land east of Ashland, where he and Susan established a home and were blessed with four daughters.
Myron was a lifetime farmer and rancher. His passion was the family farm, where he worked long hours, preparing a future to pass on to his children. He was self-motivated, dedicated to his family and his work.
He enjoyed farm auctions, cattle sales, and visiting with friends. Known for his quick wit and love of a good joke, Myron was a storyteller at heart. He could do extensive math calculations in his head, and had an uncanny ability to remember things in the past with great accuracy. He was a good mechanic, and often found creative solutions to challenges on the farm.
He enjoyed rodeos and western movies. Myron was a lifelong fan of sports, especially local high school games, KC Chiefs football, and KU basketball. His later years were spent enjoying his grandchildren’s activities.
Myron is survived by his wife Susan; his daughters: Sheri Darnell (Clint) of Protection, Emily Breit (Jason) of Hays, Amy Gregg (Shane) of Hays, and Connie Howard (Jason) of Halstead; 11 grandchildren: Ashley Darnell-Cox (Daniel), Meghan (Darnell) Stephens (Jose), Austin Darnell, Gretchen Darnell, Maxwell Breit, Ava Breit, Mahala Gregg, Dylan Gregg, Finn Howard, Aunna Howard, and Archer Howard; three great-grandchildren: Jenna, Jase, and John Stephens; one brother Don Edmonston; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Melba Swanson, and brother-in-law Kenneth Swanson.
Visitation will take place Friday, October 4, with family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at the Protection Methodist Church followed by interment at the Protection Cemetery.
