Bernadine Joan Spresser, Leoville

March 5, 1933 - November 9, 2023

Bernadine Joan Spresser, 90, passed away on November 9, 2023 at her home in Leoville, KS. Bernadine was born on March 5, 1933, on the family farm west of Dresden, KS to Bernard “Ben” and Philomena “Minnie” (Kruse) Ritter. Bernadine was the ninth of eleven children.

Bernadine attended and graduated Leoville Grade and High School in Leoville, KS in 1951. She worked in St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook, NE as a nurse’s aide until she got married.

On November 22, 1955 Bernadine married her husband of 58 years, Donald Spresser.

She was a farm wife, gardener, mother, and woman of many talents including making rosaries for the priest and missions. In 1984, she went to work cooking at the Golden Plains Grade School until she retired in 2009, after 25 years of service. Bernadine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, Leoville Altar Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; three sisters, Alfreda, Florence, and Sister Dolores, and seven brothers, Cletus, Raymond, Seraphim, Francis, Sylvester, Victor, and Dennis; grandson, Brett Spresser; great-granddaughter, Kassidy Frasier, and a foster daughter, Mary Weis.

Bernadine is survived by her seven children: Carl, Delores (Dan) Juenemann, Leroy (Renee), Dennis (Shawn), Daniel (Annette), Alan (Tonya), Donna (Jim) Kindler; 34 grandchildren: Carl – Justin (Chrystina), Austin (Abbi), Kyle (Stephanie), Jordan (Randa), Delores – Mathew (Christy), Michelle, Mark, Megan (Joel), Leroy – Danielle (Eric), Dusty, Darcie (Warkim), Devin (Brandy), Camron, Caitlin (Ben), Dennis – Kelsey (Ben), Katie (Reagan), Kendra (Jordan), Kade (Carly), Daniel – Nichole (Brent), Rilee (Amber), Grant (Jayla), Hailee (Dalton), Alan – Brittney, Tanner, Gabi (Chase), Gannon, Donna – Jacob (Rachel), Rachel (Andy), Kerry, Jay (Amber), Kory, Tessa (Jon), Kaleb (Bailey), Kayla; 66 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Margaret Ritter, and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville, KS. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Leoville. Visitation will be from 2-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the church. A vigil service will follow at 7:00 pm.
