Michael C. Hertel, age 71, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at home. He was born September 1, 1951, in Hays to Henry and Marie (Romey) Hertel. Michael graduated from Hays High School in 1969 and attended Fort Hays State University. On October 29, 1982, he married Terri Young in Hays.
Michael worked at Hays Auto Parts for 42 years, serving as the parts manager. He was a collector of many things, primarily pedal cars. With his work he was able to visit with customers and was in the know about cars and those available, which allowed him to enjoy his car collection as well.
Michael is survived by his wife, Terri of the home; two sons, Brad Sarver(Danny) of WaKeeney, and Scott Hertel (Angela) of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Tina Sarver (Samuel Jordan) of Hays; three brothers, Bob Hertel of Las Vegas, Tommy Hertel of Table Rock, Missouri and Jeff Hertel of Ellis, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Hertel of Wichita and Jeanie Pfeifer of Pratt; five grandchildren, Ravyn, Ayden, Kenzie, D.J. and Brinklee as well as five great grandchildren, Thackery, Jayce, Adelynn, Rayne and Hazel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 10, 2023, at Celebration Community Church, 5790 230th Ave, Hays, KS 67601.
Visitation will be Monday 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Celebration Community Church to be used for the Baptistry Fund.
