Mary Jane Unrein, 88, passed away at Via Christi Village, Saturday, January 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on September 13, 1935, in Victoria, Kansas, on the family farm. Mary grew up in a close-knit community and graduated from Victoria High School.

Throughout her life, Mary dedicated herself to nurturing her family and serving others. She worked for many years at the Hays Medical Center gift shop.

Mary's greatest joy came from spending quality time with her loved ones. She cherished every moment with her grandkids and always made it a priority to attend their school events and sports activities. Mary's love for her family was immeasurable, and her presence will forever be missed.

A woman of deep faith, Mary was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church as well as the Daughters of Isabella. Her spirituality guided her through life's challenges, giving her strength and inspiring those around her.

Mary is survived by her two sons: Mark Unrein (Lora) of DeSoto, KS, Kevin Unrein of Hays, KS; four daughters: Jane Geist (Marvin Honas) of Hays, KS; JoAnn Wasinger (Rick) of Hays, KS; Jerilyn Draper of Hays, KS; Jolene Eberle (Kyle) of Spearville, KS. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren who meant the world to her: Landon and Matthew Geist; Kimberly Kraft (Dalton); Jake Wasinger (Chantel); Josh Wasinger (Kasandra); Jared Wasinger (Kelsey); Shane Draper (Desiree); Megan Cochran (Jae); Austin Unrein (Kylie); Madison and Hannah Unrein; and Spencer Eberle (Jessica), together with 13 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her brothers: Leroy Braun (JoAnn), Clarence Braun Jr., Wayne Braun (Edie), Allen Braun (Patti), and sister Lorita Berens (Ronnie) and brother-in-law Tony Leiker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister Jeanette Leiker and infant sister Darlene.

To honor Mary's life, services will be held on January 24, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, Kansas. A visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. The Mass to celebrate Mary's life will then be held at 11:00 a.m., with Father James Moster, OFM Cap., officiating.
