Larned – Jim A. Mitchell, 71, passed away March 17, 2024 at his home in Larned.
He was born January 29, 1953 in Scott City, the son of John F. and Agnes Schmaltz Mitchell.
As a child, Jim grew up in the farming communities of western Kansas. He was a Project Manager for Sprint in the Kansas City area where he lived for twenty years before moving to Pawnee County in 2014. Jim was an integral member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, serving many different roles including, School of Religion, Adult Education and starting Kapaun’s Men group. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, a previous member and past president of CMBA. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, being a bus driver, and especially spending time with his grandkids.
On August 15, 1975 he married Mary E. Finger at Larned; she survives.
Other survivors include: daughter, Stacey (Bob) Rein, Larned; two sons, Ryan (Becka) Mitchell, Rozel, Jeff (Heather) Mitchell, Fargo, North Dakota; three sisters, Donna Thatcher, Wichita, Debbie Allen, Wichita, Sandy (Tom) Holub, Pilsen; nine grandchildren, Lexi, Dalton, Jameson, Alaina, Kole, Gillian, Audrey, Tyson, and Kason.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tracy Kottmeyer.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Anselm Eke, MSP and Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024 with family present from 4-6 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with a vigil and rosary at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.
