Mark Alan Lang, 69, of Hays, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at HaysMed. He was born on Nov. 13, 1954, in Manitou Springs, Colo., to Alex and Betty (Sander) Lang.
Mark graduated from Hays High in 1972 and, on Oct. 7, 1976, he married Jackie Karlin, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Mark served his country as a proud U.S. Navy Veteran.
Mark's professional journey took him through the world of auto body and paint, where he worked locally for James Motors, Schaffer Body Shop, and Paul MacDonald Chevrolet and Lewis Automotive Body Shop.
Following his passion, he transitioned to becoming a sales representative with Sherwin Williams Auto Paint, dedicating 25 years to the industry before retiring in 2013.
Even after retirement, he remained active, working part-time for Oldham Sales. A true "Car Guy" at heart, Mark found joy in classic car restoration and all things associated with it. His cherished possession was a 1956 Chevy Nomad, a testament to his love for automobiles.
Actively participating in the Thunder on the Plains car, truck and cycle club, he promoted and enjoyed various shows. He was also a proud member of the Chevrolet Nomad Association.
Mark's infectious smile and unwavering friendship endeared him to all who knew him. He could always be counted on as a true friend in times of need. His Saturdays were spent relishing lunches at the Golden Q with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie of Hays; a son, Alec Lang of Hays; a sister, Victoria Degenhardt, and husband Jerry of Ellis; as well as his beloved fur babies, Hunter and Zelda, and grand fur baby, Ghost.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Brett Alan Lang.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial with Military Honors, courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard, will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Mark’s memory will continue to live on as a registered organ donor, which will enhance and save numerous lives.
