Gary Dean Barber

Gary Dean Barber, 81, of Oberlin, passed away April 11, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County. He was born June 22, 1941, in Winnwood, MO to William D. and Rose (McQuaid) Barber.

Gary grew up in Culbertson, NE. While in the military he received his GED. Gary married Carol Jean Hanes on July 3, 1963, in Oberlin. He was a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad for years and was known as “Red." Gary was a great mechanic and spent a lot of time restoring old cars and motorcycle racing. He loved camping music and dancing. He was a member of the Prairie Dog Car Club and was associated with the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness congregation.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; son, Shawn Barber; sisters, Marcene Wilson and Alma Ann Sweeney, and brothers, Webb Barber and Jodie Barber. He is survived by his children: Damon D. Barber of Culbertson, NE, Danette (Lee) Kramer of Hastings, NE, Michelle Remmenga of Hastings, NE, and Karina (Jon) Fisher of Oberlin, KS; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family has chosen cremation and services will be held at a later date.
