Maynard Melvin Steitz, 90, La Crosse, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.
Maynard was born January 25, 1933, on a farm north of Bison, Kansas, the son of Jake and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Steitz.
He was a 1951 graduate of Bison High School, Bison, Kansas. He graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, Kansas, in 1955 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and business administration.
He was a Navy aviation pilot and flew an F9F Cougar jet aircraft. After the service, he held various positions in the Federal Aviation Administration as a flight safety officer.
Maynard enjoyed golf, reading, and traveled to numerous destinations in and outside of the United States. He was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, since 2010. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Otis, Kansas.
He is survived by one sister, Wilma Steadman, La Crosse, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Steitz, La Crosse, Kansas, and Beverly Steitz, Inola, Oklahoma; and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Leona Steitz; four brothers, Victor, Reinhold, Eberhardt and Leland Steitz; and three sisters, Verneta Healzer, Leona Keil, and Ruby Shank.
Graveside service and interment will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Otis, Kansas, with Pastor Phyllis Burdge officiating.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.
