Mary Gaye Knowles, 69, died peacefully at her home in Kansas City on December 2, 2023.

She was the daughter of Rupert and Marillyn (Crane) Knowles.

Mary grew up in Hays and attended Hays High until her family moved to Wichita before her senior year. 

She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in biology and went on to earn a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. 

She worked as a grant writer for HydroGeoLogic (HGL), a national environmental remediation company.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents. 

She is survived by her siblings: Larry Knowles(Michelle) of Hays, Ron Knowles (Michelle) of Missoula, MT and Patricia Chase (Clint) of International Falls, MN. 

She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
