Evalyn Wilson

Ruth “Evalyn” Wilson was born May 13, 1938, in the family house in Sonora, Texas, to Thomas Jefferson Wall and Viola Elizabeth (Turner) Wall.  She passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Long Term Care, WaKeeney, at the age of 84. 

Evalyn grew up in Sonora and moved to WaKeeney to be close to her sister Pearl, where she met Vernon “Dick” Wilson. On Jan. 16, 1960, Evalyn married Dick Wilson in WaKeeney at the home of Alvina and Howard Wilson, to this union, they were blessed with four children, and they made their home in WaKeeney. She was employed at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk for 25 years.  

Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was apparent and always had a special place in her heart. She was often referred to as “A” by her Texas nieces and nephews.  Among her favorite hobbies were going to auctions, reading, gardening, playing cards, and particularly bridge. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Epsilon Sigma Sorority. 

Evalyn is survived by five children, Eric (Jamie) Sjo, Ozark, Ark., Les (Karen) Wilson, Hays, Tony (Kimmie) Wilson, Tulsa, Okla., Sandra (Sam) Courtney, Norton, Cynthia (Donald) Brunzell, Grand Island, Neb.; grandchildren, Cameron, Tanner, and Dustin Sjo; Kathryn McEwan; Anthony Wilson, Piper and Jet Wilson; Chris Wilson; Joshua, Josiah, Brianna, and Megan Brunzell; 14 great-grandchildren, sister, Katie Jenkens; brothers, Allan Wall and Jack Wall.  

Evalyn is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Wilson, father Thomas Wall, mother, Viola (Turner) Wall, brothers, Leroy Wall, Thomas Wall, Richard Wall, and Jimmy Wall, sisters, Bernice Wall, Stella Wall, Marie Hollmig and Pearl Thompson, and three great-grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Inurnment will follow at the WaKeeney City Cemetery, WaKeeney. A luncheon to follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
