Raymond Gene Heikes, 76, of Lenora, KS passed away December 31, 2022, at the Norton County Hospital. He was born May 10, 1946, in Norton, KS to Kenneth and Eula (Goldsby) Heikes.
Raymond grew up on a farm northwest of Lenora. He attended Lenora Grade School and graduated in 1964 from Lenora High School. He joined the Army National Guard in 1964 and served until 1970. Raymond married Rhonda Snyder on September 4, 1966. He was a farmer and had many business ventures throughout his life. He did woodworking and attended craft shows, traveling to five states, he had a Pole Frame Building Business, and then he and Rhonda have owned the County Corner Grocery Store in Lenora for 31 years. Raymond was a 4-H leader for woodworking and was a member of the IOOF Lodge and Eagles Lodge. He was a volunteer fireman for the Lenora Rural Fire Dept. for at least 25 years and served as the Mayor of Lenora for many years.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Rhonda of the home; daughter, Kendra Haun of Lenora, KS; grandsons, Justin (Emmy) Heikes of Lenora and Cameron (Hunter) Heikes of Rollo, MO, Trent (Rayna) Merchant of Keithville, LA; great granddaughters, RosaLee and Paxtyn; brother-in-law, Barry Snyder of Morrison, CO; sister-in-law, Joan Snyder of Oklahoma City, OK, and two special nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Eula Heikes; brother, Robert Heikes; son, Todd Heikes; great granddaughter, Maeven Heikes and brother-in-law, Don Snyder.
Cremation was chosen and service times are pending.
