Mary Joan Harvey (Schroeder) passed peacefully in Mt. Dora, Fla., on June 7, 2023, at the age of 93.
She was surrounded by family. Harvey was a native Kansan and was a long-time resident of Hays.
She is survived by sons Fred (Sheri – deceased), Mark (Lise), Steve (Karen), Paul (Susan – deceased), and James (Sarita) Harvey; daughters Marilyn Schumacher (Bob), and Barbara Schnose (Mark); and brothers Fulgence (Rita), Gerald Schroeder (Mary Lou), and Dan (Janet). She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Harvey married Thomas Larkin Harvey on June 7, 1952. They were married 57 years.
She was preceded in death by husband Thomas; parents Margaret (Arendt) and Charles Schroeder; brothers John, Anthony Leon (Antonetta Marie-deceased), Charles Martel (Eileen-deceased), and Nicholas Patrick (Judy); and sisters Delores Orten (Duane-deceased), Barbara Mindrup (Patrick (Joe)-deceased), and Rose Winkler (Donald-deceased); and grandson Jake Harvey.
Harvey was an alumna of Girls Catholic High School in Hays, and Saint Mary’s Nursing School in Manhattan, Kan. She worked as a registered nurse in Kansas until retirement and had a great love for her family, friends and her faith.
The funeral will take place at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
