Alice Faye Searight, 75, of Phillipsburg, Kansas passed on February 16th, 2024, in her daughter’s home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Alice was born on May 7th, 1948, in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Clarence Elvin and Winifred Arlene Kendall. She was the seventh of eight siblings.
Alice spent most of her life living and working in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She spent decades working as a cook at the Colonial Restaurant, later known as the Branding Iron. She was very well known by truckers and hunters throughout the country who traveled to and from Phillipsburg for her incredible pancakes and breakfasts she prepared in the restaurant.
Alice had a passion for aiding in the protection of abused animals in shelters by making many charitable donations to animal advocacy groups over the years. She rescued her own dogs, Pepper, Ally, and many others from these very shelters.
Touring the United States by motorcycle with her husband, George, was a favorite pastime of Her’s. She also loved to spend summers traveling across the states with her daughter and granddaughters to places like Yellowstone, Yosemite, Mesa Verde, the Grand Canyon and taking cruises to the Bahamas.
Alice was preceded in death by her first husband Stephen John Brinson; parents Clarence and Winifred; sisters Bessie Arlene Schumacher, Donna Rae Smith, Connie Kaye Iverson, Clara Joyce Kendall, and Cleta Luella Kendall; one brother Glenn Gerald Kendall; two nieces and two nephews.
Alice is survived by her daughter Cerena Marie Paterson and son-in-law Jeff Paterson of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughters Alexis Marion Paterson and Kendal Marie Paterson of Grand Junction, CO; husband George Searight of Phillipsburg, KS; brother Wilbur Eugene Kendall and his wife Karmen of Phillipsburg, KS; brothers-in-law Roy Lee Smith, Henry Searight and wife Karen, Frank Searight and wife Camilla; sisters in law Vicki Kendall, Dorothy Larkin, Mary Stets; one niece and seven nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Saturday and Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the High Plains.
