Mitchel A. “Mitch” Sommers, age 64 of Victoria, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, Kansas.

He was born February 5, 1959, in Topeka, Kansas to Donald A. and Irene (Peck) Sommers.

Mitch grew up in Delia and Victoria. He graduated from Victoria High School and Fort Hays State University.

He taught school for a few years in Liberal then moved back to Ellis County. He was a guide at Sternberg Museum in Hays, taught classes, painted murals and back drops for exhibits, and volunteered a lot of time at the museum. He held stained glass classes and was a volunteer for the Hays Arts Council. He enjoyed his flower gardening, the arts, cooking, animals and his dogs.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Sommers, Ellis, KS; his sister, Donna Funk, Otis, KS; his stepsister, Cheryl Frederick and husband, Tom, Topeka, KS; his former sister-in-law, Sharon Sommers, Victoria, KS; his nieces and nephews, Richard Frederick (Mia); Robert Frederick; Brian Frederick; Donald Sommers (Sandra); Jamie Buehler; Phillip Funk (Jessica); Shane Sommers; Dawn Wasinger (Danny); his 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and a large extended group of friends.

Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irene Sommers; his stepmother, Henrietta Sommers; his brother, Donald Sommers; and his brother-in-law, James Funk.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2023, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, Kansas 67671 with Stan Ewy S.A.M. officiating.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials made payable to: Hays Arts Council or National Kidney Foundation of Kansas & Western Missouri in Care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.
