Greg Ruder, 46, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 16, 2023, at his home in San Antonio.

Greg was born on  January 24, 1977, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Carol and Roger Ruder.

He married Monica Bernard on December 23, 2017.

He attended St. Joseph Grade School in  Hays before the family moved to San Antonio in 1986. He was a 1995 graduate of Judson High School and earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Greg was a Product Analyst for HEB, a supermarket chain based in San Antonio. He was particularly known for his extensive work in press boxes and scoring tables at the collegiate and professional levels. He was employed on press row for UTSA volleyball, basketball, and football for 16 years. He worked press row for the San Antonio Spurs and for the San Antonio Silver Stars. In recent years he was also a statistician for the Houston Texans and the Texas A&M Aggies radio broadcasts. In addition he was a scorekeeper and shot clock operator for more than 40 March Madness basketball games, including the men's 2018 Final Four and the entire 2021 women's tournament that was altered by the Covid epidemic, both in San Antonio.

Greg had an infectious zeal for life. He and Monica traveled extensively, including a trip to Hawaii in April and a Boston trip in May. He was the life of the party for family get-togethers for the Ruder and Beals families. A loyal friend and family member, Greg was loved by many and especially adored by his nieces and nephews.

Greg is survived by his wife Monica; his parents Carol and Roger Ruder; mother-in-law Jeanelle Bernard; brothers Curtis (Kim), of Selma, Texas and Patrick (Bonnie) of San Antonio; sisters-in-law Karen Hill and Suzanne Derelioglu; nieces Katie and Lilly Ruder; nephews Tony, Logan and Parker Ruder, Conor and Riley Derelioglu and Andrew Hill; and his beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother Jeffrey; grandparents Tony and Armella Ruder, Jack and Thelma Beals; sister-in-law Becky Goforth; father-in-law Godfrey Bernard; uncles Ron Ruder and Rod Ruder; and aunt Martha Jane Lowen.

Cremation has taken place. Per Greg's wishes no visitation nor service will take place. There will be a celebration of life at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the following institutions as these were Greg's wishes: Animal Defense League of San AntonioBoysville of TexasChildren's Bereavement Center, or Lanai Cat Sanctuary.
