SCOTT CITY - Thelma G. Miller, age 91, peacefully passed away on June 12, 2023, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on August 27, 1931, in Ransom, Kansas the daughter of William Roy and Nellie Adkinson Barnett.
A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1937 moving from Ransom, Kansas, she was the retired owner of Miller’s Grain in Scott City, Kansas.
On August 28, 1949, she married Delmer Miller in Scott City Kansas, the day after she turned 18. Thelma liked to tell the story that she could legally be married but Delmer had to have his parents sign a consent because the legal age for a woman to marry was 18 but for a man, it was 21. He passed away on May 28, 1993, in Scott City, Kansas.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, High Plains Study Club, Funds for Fun, Tuesday Bridge Club, and was Past President of Kansas West Conference United Methodist Women.
Thelma enjoyed many other activities. She was a master at making meals for Delmer’s harvest crews during wheat harvest, commander of the dishwasher at the Methodist Church, and an earache specialist. When Delmer semi-retired and bought a boat for fishing, the children and grandchildren decided they would rather water ski so Delmer bought another boat for him to fish and taught Thelma to drive the other to take her family and friends water skiing. Many great days were spent at Trenton, Nebraska (Swanson Reservoir) at their trailer with family and friends.
In her 40s, Thelma chaperoned many church youth groups on snow skiing trips. She informed Delmer if she was going with them, she might as well ski. This led to numerous years of her and Delmer enjoying the slopes. Thelma last snow skied when she was 75 years old with great-grandsons Austin and Nick.
Survivors include her son Craig Miller of Scott City, Kansas, daughters Cozette and Van Buckner of Scott City, Kansas, Cynthia Lee Miller and Huxley Nixon, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, sister Lela Bishop of Leoti, Kansas, granddaughters Jennifer Turpin, Stephanie (Turpin) Brown, Andrea (Miller) Tucker, Ashlee (Miller) Moses and Cameron Turpin, great-grandchildren Austin Rios, Nick Brown, Hannah Tucker, Jake Moses and Bo Moses and great-great-grandchild Lumi Rios.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Neal Barnett and Wade Barnett.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas, with the Rev. Jeff Goetzinger and Rev. Dennis Carter presiding.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington Street, Scott City, Kansas.
Interment will be held in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
