Lakin- Johnney Perez, 23, died on Monday, February 12, 2024 in Garden City. He was born on February 17, 2000 in Garden City the son of Noel & Annette (Garcia) Perez.
Johnney graduated from Lakin High School in 2018 where he was very involved in sports. He was a 4 time state qualifier in wrestling and finished 4th his Senior year. He was a running back on the football team and outfielder on the baseball team. After high school he received a wrestling scholarship to Barton County Community College and wrestled there for 2 years. After his schooling he moved to Hays where he was employed as roughneck at Murfin Drilling Company. He was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. He enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Ute Lake in Logan, New Mexico and Bob Hall Pier in Padre Island, Texas. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling with his family.He is survived by his Parents- Noel & Annette Perez of Hays, two Brothers- Shawn Petties, Jr. of Garden City and Dustin Kraft of Wichita, Sister- Sheyenne Perez of Garden City, Grandfather- Johnny Garcia of Hobbs, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents- Alice Garcia and Rosie & Juan Perez, Jr.
Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Friday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Saturday both at St Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin with Rev Peter Tran as Celebrant.
Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. Memorials are suggested to Lakin High School Wrestling Program in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
