ROZEL – Rodney Boese, 71, passed away May 1, 2023 at his residence in Rozel.

 He was born October 9, 1951, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Vernon G. and Ella M. Eilts Boese.

A lifetime area resident, he was a stockman, loved hunting, fishing, trapping, skinning and going to livestock sales.

He served in the United States Navy.

He moved back home and worked at Sanford and Rozel Co-op, volunteered on Rozel Fire Department. He moved to Wyoming to work in the uranium mines. Later moved to Arizona to work in the copper mines. Moved back home and worked at Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, La Crosse Livestock Market, Southwest Livestock in Dodge City and Ryan Farms of Burdett.

 On August 27, 1977 he married Mary J. McVey at Larned. She survives.

Other survivors include son Curt Rocha, Rozel; two daughters, Lori (Robert) Larsen, Rozel, Amy Boese, Leon, Kansas; brother Lavern (Rosa) Boese, Great Bend; three sisters, Glenna Belcher, Kinsley, Sandra, (Dennis) Sauer, Rozel, Marva D. McDonald, Kinsley; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Boese, and Brent Boese; sister Shirley Shank; and one great-grandchild.

Cremation has taken place; memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Brown’s Grove Cemetery with Pastor Barry Bond presiding. Military graveside rights will be provided by the United States Navy.
