Etta Jane Taylor was born in her parents’ home on June 19, 1933. Etta was the middle daughter of Goldie Theda (Lewis) and Charles Earl (Whitey) Taylor. Etta grew up in Hoxie Kansas and graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the class of 1952.
Etta fell in love and married Harold Loyd Timken on February 2nd, 1952, at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. They made their home in Hoxie where they raised their family. Etta and Harold had three children Sharon Sue born in 1954; she was stillborn, Danny Loyd born in 1955, and Cindy Lou born in 1956. Cindy is the only surviving child of Etta and Harold.
Etta was a fantastic homemaker. She loved taking care of her home and her family. She taught both Cindy and Danny how to cook, bake, and sew as well as keep a tidy well-run home. She loved gardening, where Cindy recalls the years, they sold produce from the garden especially the "tons" of strawberries. "We would get through the large patch and back through we would go."
Etta loved to sing, the radio was always playing as a child and Cindy loved listening to her mom sing as she went about her daily tasks. We would dance and sing around the house as we worked. It was a wonderful fun childhood, Cindy recalls. Etta and her sisters Glendace and Vera would get together and they would jitterbug for hours. Etta loved to dance and was quite good at it. She was still cutting a rug just a few years ago.
Etta also enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, baking, bowling, playing cards, horseshoes, and riding her bike. Her biggest joy was her children, then along came her grandchildren and her joy was even greater. She loved each and every one of those grandkids and spoiled them as a good grandma does!!! Etta knew everyone in the family nieces and nephews included. She could still recall their birthdates and many of their wedding anniversary dates. Her remarkable memory never left her. Etta treasured all those memories.
Etta is survived by her daughter, Cindy Eller (Roger Milton); grandchildren, James Alexander (Amanda), Raine Eller (Brian Gee), Hannah Eller (Kat), and Cody Eller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theada and Charles Taylor; husband, Harold Timken; son, Danny Timken; daughter, Sharon Timken; sisters, Glendece Osborn and Vera Wing; and son-in-law, Jan Eller.
She will forever be loved. We will miss her physical presence here with us, but she will always be with us in our hearts!
