Leland Doss Chapman, 85, died on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with his
family by his side and was reunited in heaven with his loving wife
Sandra. He was born on April 25, 1937, the oldest of 4 kids of Jack
& Lena (Schweitzer) Chapman. He married Sandra J. Mendenhall on
February 14, 1960, at Utica. She preceded him in death.
Leland graduated from Utica High School and enlisted in the United
States Army. After his discharge he owned and operated his construction
business. Later he returned to the family farm and greatly enjoyed
raising cattle and growing crops. He was especially proud of his family
heritage and the Chapman family long history in both Utica and Gove
County dating back to 1887 and also being a proud Army Veteran. His
last 4 years were spent in the Lane County Long Term Center and the
family would like to thank the staff for their compassionate care during
the difficult times.
He is survived by his Daughter- Melissa (Jake) Jacobs of Middlebury,
Indiana, Son- Jack (Susan) Chapman of Dighton, Sister- Bonnie Chapman of
Denver, Colorado, Brother- Russ (Alana) Chapman of Dighton, 11
Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his Parents, Wife, Son & Daughter-In-Law- Delwin and Tamara Chapman
and Brother- Toby Chapman.
Funeral Will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday at First Christian Church in Utica
with Pastor Alana Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Utica
Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post # 380 of Utica.
