Judith Amelia “Jude” Scheck, age 80, of Hays, Kansas died on August 25, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
She was born July 31, 1942, in Great Bend, Kansas, Gottfried “Fred” and Helena (Stoppel) Mai. She was the youngest of 5 children. Jude married Gilbert E. Scheck on October 29, 1962, at Victoria, Kansas, and lived there until moving to Hays in 1965.
He preceded her in death on March 28, 2003.
Jude enjoyed playing the organ and piano and owned Jude’s Piano and Organ for many years. She gave lots of piano and organ lessons throughout the years. She and Gilbert owned Midwest Steam Cleaning for a number of years.
She grew up in Galatia and Gorham. Kansas, and was a 1960 graduate graduated from Russell High School. She was a foster parent for many years, taking in hundreds of children and teens, and served as guardian for people with disabilities.
She was attended of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, a member of the Hays Daughters of Isabella, the Red Hat Ladies and TOPS. She was a past member of the Ellis County Wellhead Protection Committee, and served as facilitator for the Northwest Kansas Dementia and Alzheimer’s Association. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and enjoyed shopping trips with her family, and never passed up a good bargain at a garage sale.
Jude is survived by her daughter, Monique Koerner and husband, Lance, Hays, KS; hersister, Nadene Albrecht, Topeka, KS; her grandchildren, Shaylan Holmes and Liam Holmes, Northglenn, CO; Riley Holmes, Seamus Holmes, and Tiernan Holmes, all of Hays, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert E. Scheck; her sisters, Frieda Karst and Esther Stettinger; and her brother, Karl Mai.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays, Kansas with Father Nick Parker. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery Hays, Kansas.
Vigil service and a Hays Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials payable to TMP-Marian High School in care of the mortuary.
