Kay D. Fiala, 82, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Kay was born February 13, 1940, in Bazine, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Violet (Brack) Mantz.  She was a lifelong resident of Ness County, Kansas, and Rush County, Kansas.  A 1958 graduate of Bazine High School, Bazine, Kansas, she attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Kay was employed for 38 years  as a front desk office assistant by Golden Belt Telephone Association (GBTA) before her retirement.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Kay loved crossword puzzles, watching her University of Kansas and Kansas City sports teams, clothes shopping, going to church, playing bingo, hosting family and friends get togethers, and traveling to see family.

On February 11, 1972, she married George Fiala at La Crosse, Kansas.  He preceded her in death April 5, 1996.

Survivors include:  her son, Joel Fiala, South Florida; three grandchildren, Julia, Evan, and Doug; one great granddaughter, Sophia; two brothers, Gary Mantz (Diana), Bazine, Kansas, and Gail Mantz (Marilyn), Bazine, Kansas; two nephews and two nieces, Greg, Chad, Brenda, and Megan; and one great nephew and two great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.  

Church visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Jonathan McCoytry officiating.  Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers of plants, the family request memorials to the donor’s choice.
