Dennis (Denny) LaVerne Musil, 74, of Goodland, Kansas passed away July 31, 2023 at Topside Manor in Goodland.  He was born on April 11, 1949 in Albia, Iowa to Elsie Mildred (Hale) and Leonard Lester Musil.  The family lived in Centerville, Iowa for about a month after his birth before relocating back to Edson in May 1949.

Denny enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 25, 1969 where he served for one and a half years before an honorable discharge due to physical disability.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service and Campaign Medals, along with a Meritorious Unit Citation.

On January 14, 1972, he and Rebecca Kirkham, of Sharon Springs, were married at the Wesleyan Church in Sharon Springs. 

His memberships included the Lowell Coleman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post where he took great pride in holding many positions including with the Honor Guard.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rebecca; brother and sister-in-law Marlin and Yvonne Musil; sister-in-law Dorothy Musil; sister-in-law Carol Kay (Kate) Musil; brother-in-law John P. Kirkham; and niece Lucy A. Kirkham-Cochener.

Surviving family includes his brothers Ronnie L. and Melvin B. Musil both of Goodland; son David B. Musil and wife Rachelle of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter Sharon Cross and her husband John of Flagler, Colorado; son Darin Musil and his wife Leann Koons of Cheyenne, Wyoming; seven grandchildren; Marcus (Ashley) Cross, Michael Cross, Taylor Musil, Chloe Musil, Merisha Cross, Elizabeth Musil, and Matthew Cross; brother-in-law Brian Kirkham of Amarillo, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland at 10:00 a.m. (mountain time) on Friday, August 18.  Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney at 2:30 p.m. (central time).

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Lowell Coleman VFW Post 1133 and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
