Joyce Joylea Fischer, age 66, passed away at her home on September 10, 2023. She was born to Alfred (Dale) and Donna (Gilliland) Hazen on March 20, 1957 in McCook, NE.

Joyce grew up in Maywood, NE and graduated from Medicine Valley High School in 1975.

She married Duane James Fischer on March 12, 1978. They celebrated their 45th anniversary this year. They had three children from this union, Rikki, Crystal, and Shine.

Joyce stayed at home with the kids after they were born. She worked as a lifeguard during the summers, and taught preschool and Sunday school. She took floral and woodworking classes, and earned her first responder while in Curtis.

After moving to Kansas, Joyce worked as a bank teller, librarian, postal worker, EMT for the Lenora ambulance service, firefighter, and director of the Norton County EMS. The family enjoyed raising dogs, especially Boston Terriers and English Bulldogs.

Joyce later earned an associate degree from Colby Community College in nursing. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at a traveling agency, the Andbe Home in Norton, KS and Norton County Hospital in Norton, KS. She worked as a registered nurse in several places including Abilene, KS in the emergency room and Whispering Pines in Norton, KS. She later worked as the administrator at Whispering Pines before retiring.

After retirement, Joyce worked for the postal service and had the most amazing garden. Joyce loved crafting, thrifting, spending time with her grandkids and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Donna Hazen; husband, Duane Fischer and brother, Arlas Shawn Hazen.

She is survived by her daughters Rikki Renee Wait and her husband RD of Norton, KS and Crystal Marie Fischer and her fiancé Nolan Younce of Conway Springs, KS; son Shine RichardDale Fischer and wife Erinn of Hyderabad, India; brothers Allen Dean Hazen and Dennis Dale Hazen and wife Deb all of Curtis, NE; grandchildren Rayanne Emily Wait, Kira Marie Forrest, Alise Joylea Wait, Cody Duane Wait, Jessi Jean Wait, Hunter Lee Fyler, Oakley Elizabeth Fischer, and Finley Kay Fischer; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Joyce will be cremated, and a family service will be held at a later date.
