Billie D. Lyon, 93, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, at Independent Living, Smith Center, KS.
He was born June 14, 1929, in Athol, KS, the son of Walter and Ethel
(Nye) Lyon. On February 28, 1954, he married Roverta C. Moore at the
First Christian Church, Smith Center, KS. Billie was a United States
Marine Corps veteran, serving from November of 1951 until November of
1955 when he was honorably discharged. Billie also received the Purple
Heart Medal for wounds received as a result of enemy action in Korea on
September 5, 1952.
Billie was an avid stock car fan, loved
riding motorcycles and racing go carts when he was younger. He enjoyed
traveling with his wife Roverta and her sister Janice taking bus trips
to Branson, MO on several occasions. He was a member of the First
Christian Church, Smith Center, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Roverta on July 17, 2014.
Billie is survived by a sister-in-law, Janice K. Grammon of Winfield, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 21,
2023, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center,
KS, with Pastor Randy Hill officiating. Visitation will be held on
Friday, January 20, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral
chapel. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS.
Memorials may be given to Independent Living or the Marine Corps League, both of Smith Center and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
