Jon C. Long, age 69, died tragically Monday, March 18, 2024, in a truck accident in Tularosa, New Mexico. He was born August 9, 1954, in Sevastopol, Wisconsin, the son of Donald G. Sr. and Ruby Ann (Jarman) Long.

Jon grew up in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1972 from West De Pere High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Jon served in the United States Navy for five years and then transferred to the Naval Reserve for 12 years. He married Mary Menard on May 20, 1975, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at Nativity Catholic Church. He worked for his uncles and friends on their farms where he perfected his handy man skills. Jon was currently driving semi for Martin Trucking / Southwest Express of Hugoton, Kansas. He loved the Lord, enjoyed writing Bible studies, and was an active member of the First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas. He enjoyed playing his guitar, reading, fishing, being outdoors, and camping with his family. Jon previously volunteered on the Morton County EMS of Rolla, Kansas, and was a current volunteer for the Morton County Fire Department of Rolla, Kansas. Jon will be remembered for the love he had for his family and being a man of integrity.

Jon is survived by his wife, Mary, of their home; sons, Christopher Long and wife, Elizabeth, of Verona, Wisconsin, and Sergeant First Class David Long and wife, Renne, of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Donald Long, Jr. and wife, Mary Ellen, of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Jay Long and wife Dina Alhadeff of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Liam and Tori; nieces and nephews, and other extended family.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Ruby Ann Long; and sister, Valerie Long.

A memorial service along with military honors by the Navy Honor Guard and SWKS Veterans Funeral Honor Guard will be Friday, April 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas. Family will greet friends Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. The service and military honors will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Page.
