Verle Lee Mendenhall was born August 12, 1934, on the family farm in rural Gove County, to Leslie Lee and Marie (Hockersmith) Mendenhall. He passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Logan County Senior Living, Oakley, at the age of 88.
Verle attended and graduated from Gove High School, Gove, KS. After graduation, he started working on the family farm and continued farming and ranching for the remainder of his life. On May 24, 1953, Verle married Ramona Mae Noel in Gove, KS, and to this union, they were blessed with four sons. In 1968 he moved to Colorado for a brief stint to continue his love for farming and ranching then returned to the family farm in 1973.
His love for hunting, fishing, and boating were among his favorite hobbies, he “taught” or pulled countless kids behind his boat introducing them to the sport of water skiing. Verle was a pro at building terraces, building many miles for himself and others. In 2003 Verle and Romona held the coveted honor of being King and Queen at Old Settlers Day in Gove.
Verle is survived by four sons, Allen Mendenhall, Gove; Steve (Reatha) Mendenhall, Cheyenne Wells, CO; David Mendenhall, Gove; Daniel (Roseann) Mendenhall, New Raymer, CO; grandchildren, Amanda Blum, Gasville, AR;; Troy (Allyson) Wichita, KS; Tawni (Shaun) Willitts, Highlands Ranch, CO; Kami Miller, Dighton, KS; Angela (Eddie) Holloway, Briggsdale, CO; Shane (Jamie) Mendenhall, Greeley, CO; great-grandchildren, Helmut “Otto”, Chase, and Jayden Blum, Lillian Shank; Chloe and Caden Mendenhall; Brody, Jordyn and Myles Willitts; Gabriel Bowers; Madison and Mackayla Miller; MacKenzie and Mason Holloway, Jamie Bermudez; Jaiden and Keegan Mendenhall.
Verle is preceded in death by his father, Leslie Mendenhall, mother, Marie (Hockersmith) Mendenhall, granddaughter, Jennifer Signorelli, and great-grandson Charles Steven Mendenhall.
Funeral services will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at the Gove City Cemetery, Gove, KS.
