Mary Castaneda 72, was called home on December 19, 2023 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. She was born in Smiley, Texas on April 15, 1951 the daughter of Ramon and Elizabeth (Heineman) Perez.Mary was born and raised in Texas. She moved to Garden City, KS in 1967. She married Ramiro Castaneda in late 1978 in Garden City, Kansas. He survives. She worked as a CNA at Garden Valley Retirement and Terrace Garden Center where she shared her love and compassion for those she cared for. Her hobbies included playing bingo, Texas Hold ‘em and an occasional trip to the casino. Her grandkids brought her the most joy in life. She was the best cook, there was always a seat at the table with homemade tortillas. Her husband and children will remember the great wife and loving mother she was. And, for her strength, resilience, and quick-witted humor. She will be deeply missed and carried in our hearts always.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her Children- Helen Mireles (Thomas Gonzalez) George Mireles, Paula (Fernando) Serrano, Martin (Aneth) Segovia, Frances Segovia, Cuauhtémoc Castaneda, Bertha Castaneda (Edwin Longoria) & Diana Castaneda. 17 Grandchildren & 35 Great Grandchildren. Along with numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter- Christina Marie Castaneda and Grandchildren- Adan Mejia, Joel Serrano, Saul Longoria, George M. Mireles and Angelo Mireles.Visitation will be held Tuesday December 26, 2023, from 12:00-8:00 pm with a Rosary at 5:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Wednesday December 27, 2023, at St Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, KS with Rev. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
