Terry Dean Tennyson, 72, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, with complications from dementia. He was surrounded by music, singing and the love of his family.
Terry was born September 30, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas, to Phillip and Verla Tennyson. Terry graduated from Plainville High School and attended college at Fort Hays State University as well as Brown Mackie College.
Terry was united in marriage to Melanie (Voelzke) on September 3rd, 1971, in Salina, Kansas. Terry and Melanie were blessed by three children; Travis, Tricia, and Tracie.
In 1974, Terry began working for Beechcraft in Salina before transferring to the Wichita plant in 1988, at which time the family relocated to Augusta. Terry worked there for 40 years before retiring. Terry loved playing the bass guitar and did so the majority of his life. Terry played in many bands through the years including Justice, Freed, and The Matt Engels Band, just to name a few.
Music was Terry’s passion, and his five grandchildren were his pride. If you wanted to see Terry’s eyes light up, talking to him about his family would do just that.
Terry is survived by his wife Melanie and their children Travis Tennyson of Augusta, Tricia and husband Eric Brown of Augusta, and Tracie Tennyson and wife Ashlie Krieger of Eau Claire, Michigan. Grandchildren include Easton, Ericson, and Emmett Brown (Tricia), and Vaughn and Vivian Tennyson (Travis). Terry is also survived by his siblings Kathy Brown (Phil Schultz) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Deb Rice (Mike) of Wichita, and Randy Tennyson (Pam) of Augusta, as well as nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at FlutterBye Ranch between Augusta and Leon on Sunday, September 25th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, come and go.
