Betty Wayman, age 88, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was born on a farm south of Ellis on February 11, 1934 to Fredrick William & Florence Elma (Carter) Mickelson. She married Melvin Grosz May 1951 & later divorced. She moved to Wyoming in 1964 where she met her husband, Chuck Wayman. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2008.
Betty worked for many years at the City Café in Ellis. Betty was a member of the Methodist Church, U.M.W. and Noah Circle, Ellis Country Club, Lifetime member of Ellis VFW Auxiliary and a Hospice Volunteer. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and working puzzles.
Betty is survived by daughters, Patty (Steve) Bone, Gloria (Scott) Callaway, Tonya Appel; sons, Gordon Grosz, Charles Jr (Gloria) Wayman, Jeff Wayman, and Ed (Rayetta) Crist; sister-in-law, Donna Dreiling; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her special friend, Fran Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Chester in 1951; brothers, Ralph, Clarence and Everett Mickelson; sisters, Olive Hays, Elma Schuster, Thelma McCurdy, Grace Crist, Alice Rosendahl, Hazel Dirks, Florence Harris, Mildred Parker, her twin, Bonnie DeLong and a daughter-in-law, Janice Wayman
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Ellis Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Ellis Methodist Church or the Ellis VFW Auxiliary.
