Carolyn M. “Kay” Anderson, 91, died Monday, February 19, 2024, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born May 8, 1932, in Lakin, Kansas, the daughter of Virgil LeRoy & Edith May (Barber) Hubbard.
Kay has lived most of her life in Lakin. She attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School in 1950. On March 20, 1953, she married Ralph R. Anderson in Las Vegas, New Mexico. A homemaker, Kay was a lifetime member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin. She was also a member of PEO Chapter FQ, the Kearny County Historical Society, and SWKROA. Kay loved to spend her time doing handy work, volunteering at the church, playing Bingo and Sudoku.
Kay is survived by a daughter Sherry & husband George Rapp of Holcomb, KS; a son Mark & wife Suzanne Anderson of Houston, TX; a stepson Ronald & wife Joy Anderson of Jacksonville, FL; a brother Eldon Hubbard of Stockton, MO; one grandson William Rapp of Holcomb, KS; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband Ralph who died on September 18, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a stepson Charles Anderson; three brothers Claude Hubbard, Vernon Hubbard, & Lawrence Hubbard; and two sisters Norma Jean Hornbaker and Glenda Amerine.
A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the First Presbyterian Church of Lakin or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 91, Lakin, Kansas 67860.
