Galen E. 'Igor' Schmidt, La Crosse
Galen E. “Igor” Schmidt, 76, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas. Galen was born July 11, 1947, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Cyril P. and Marie B. (Jira) Schmidt.
He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.
A 1965 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Galen furthered his education graduating from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, Kansas, with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts.
He was a foreman at KBK Industries, Rush Center, Kansas, for 20 years before managing United Ag, Olmitz, Kansas. He was then employed with Sykes Enterprises, Hays, Kansas, and Manhattan, Kansas, before retiring. After retiring, he enjoyed spending countless hours on the farm.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.
Galen loved farming, spending time with his family especially cherishing the time spent with his three grandsons. He was also known to swing a golf club, and enjoyed his time on the golf course.
On July 10, 1971, he married Donna Keener at First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Schmidt, La Crosse, Kansas; one son, Patrick Schmidt (Amy), Basehor, Kansas; one daughter, Megan Morse (Clay), Park City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Collin Schmidt, Jalen Morse, and Liam Schmidt; five brothers, Gary Schmidt, La Crosse, Kansas, Richard Schmidt, La Crosse, Kansas, Joe Schmidt, Wamego, Kansas, John Schmidt, Hoisington, Kansas, and Mark Schmidt, Solomon, Kansas; and one sister, Mary Beth Wagner, Rush Center, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Michael Schmidt; and two sisters, Judy Addams, and Debra Hollis.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas, with Rhonda Templing, S. A. M. officiating.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.
