Charles Ryan Mackey, of Holyrood, KS, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Roenoke, VA, at the age of 46. He was born on January 17, 1978, to Robert and Thelma (Davis) Mackey in Independence, KS. He married Caroline Waymaster on December 12, 2002, in Ellsworth, KS.
A beloved trucker and cherished friend, Charles was a man who truly loved his work. Whether he was behind the wheel of his truck, working on a project as a mechanic, carpenter, or electrician, or simply enjoying a Mt Dew (which he lived on!), he approached everything with enthusiasm and expertise. His hands-on skills and wide-ranging talents were matched only by his generous spirit.
A simple man with a heart full of love, Charles had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel valued. He was always willing to lend a hand, no matter the need. He was a loving friend and family member who touched the lives of many.
In honoring Charles’s life, we remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and worked tirelessly. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness and hard work will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Charles is survived by his wife, Caroline of the home in Holyrood; parents, Robert and Thelma of Elk City, KS; sons, Wain Waymaster of Great Bend, KS and Ryan Mackey of Holyrood, KS; step-daughter, Crystal Waymaster of Concordia, KS; siblings, Doug (Sandy) Davis of Elk City, KS, Scott Mackey of Elk City, KS, Bobby Mackey, and Nellie Sharland of Gatlinburg, TN; and five grandchildren, Bennett and Lilica Scrogmaster, Tallion, Otillia and Lyre Radden.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 2PM at the funeral home in Wilson. Inurnment will follow at the Wilson City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
