Candis Elaine Hale, 77, died Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born June 19, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas.

Candis attended schools in Wichita and Lebanon, Kansas and graduated in 1963 from Lakin Rural High School where she participated in band, choir, and cheerleading. She then attended Fort Hays State University. She married Stephen M. McCormick and they lived in Hays, Kingman, Emporia, and Lakin, Kansas. Candis later married Waldo W. Hale in February 1980. Candis worked for Jon Wheat, D.D.S., County Emporium, Kep’s Menswear, and for several years was a lead volunteer for Jeanne B. Corley Hospice in Garden City. Candis was also a longtime member of PEO Chapter FQ, the Lakin Booster Club, she always dressed as the Easter Bunny at Easter, and was extremely involved in Love Lights A Tree for the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies included decorating, reading, cooking, playing cards, and she loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Waldo W. Hale of the home; four children Shannon M. & wife Kelley McCormick of Lakin, KS, Peter J. McCormick of Durango, CO, Jeff & wife Pam Hale of Hickory, NC, and Sheri L. & husband David Kvamme of Tallahassee, FL; a brother Kelly & wife Jatrice Cowan of Cedaredge, CO; a sister Cathy & husband Doug Flummerfelt of Shenandoah, IA; ten grandchildren Brittany Barnhardt, S. Brooke McCormick, Bode McCormick, Taylor Robert, Regan Hale, Ali Hale, Trey Hale, Jordan Kvamme, Madison Kvamme, & Jeffrey Kvamme; and four great-grandchildren Sophia Kvamme, Parks Robert, Annabelle Barnhardt, & Clay Barnhardt. Candis is preceded in death by her parents Hugh A. & Geraldine (Maib) Cowan and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. There will be no calling hours.

The family suggests memorials given to the Kearny County Senior Center to be used for the Christmas Star Program and the Holiday Food Boxes in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin, Kansas. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
